<image:title>Mental Health Copywriter Blog | Suzanne Griffin Copywriter - Therapist Marketing: Where Do You Even Start? - If someone is struggling with anxiety, trauma, burnout, or grief, they first have to be able to find a therapist who understands what they’re going through.</image:title>
<image:caption>Marketing simply helps create that connection. Instead of trying to convince someone to partner with you for therapy, thoughtful therapist marketing helps potential clients see themselves in the words they read. It gives them a sense of: ✅ Who you help ✅ How you approach therapy ✅ Whether your practice might feel like a safe place to heal When done well, therapist marketing isn’t manipulative or pushy. It’s informative. It helps potential clients understand who you help and whether you might be the right therapist for them. And for someone who has been quietly struggling, finding that kind of clarity can be the first step toward reaching out for support. This raises another important question: If referrals aren’t the only way people find therapists anymore, how are they actually searching for help nowadays?</image:caption>

<image:title>Mental Health Copywriter Blog | Suzanne Griffin Copywriter - Therapist Marketing: Where Do You Even Start? - 2. Your Directory Profiles</image:title>
<image:caption>Online directories like Psychology Today still play an important role in therapist marketing. Many people begin their search there because it feels relatively straightforward. They can browse profiles, compare specialties, and get a sense of which therapist might be the right fit without having to visit dozens of individual websites. For someone who is already feeling overwhelmed, that simplicity matters. It allows potential clients to explore their options at their own pace and start narrowing down therapists who seem to understand what they’re going through. But a thoughtful directory profile does more than list credentials or therapeutic approaches. It helps potential clients see themselves in what you’re describing. When someone reads a profile and thinks, “This therapist understands what I’m going through,” that moment of recognition can create a sense of relief. It often becomes the first step toward reaching out for support.</image:caption>

<image:title>Mental Health Copywriter Blog | Suzanne Griffin Copywriter - Therapist Marketing: Where Do You Even Start? - The Bottom Line</image:title>
<image:caption>If therapist marketing feels intimidating, remember that you don’t have to become a marketing expert overnight. Start with the basics. Make sure your website clearly explains who you help. Use language that potential clients can easily understand. Share insights that reflect the care and experience you bring to your work. These simple steps create visibility, trust, and connection. And ultimately, that’s what therapist marketing is really about: helping the right people find the support they’ve been searching for.</image:caption>

And they support the three things Google cares about most: 1️⃣ Can it clearly understand your specialties? 2️⃣ Can it match your site to real search queries? 3️⃣ Can it trust you as a qualified source? <image:title>Mental Health Copywriter Blog | Suzanne Griffin Copywriter - Do I Need Separate Service Pages for My Therapy Practice? - 3. Dedicated Pages Build Trust Through Specificity</image:title>
<image:caption>Let’s be honest: therapy is deeply personal. A potential client doesn’t just want to know what you treat, they want to know how you treat it. Separate pages allow you to go deeper into: The symptoms clients might be experiencing. How these issues impact their lives. The approach you take. The transformation that’s possible. What working with you actually feels like. This is where your voice shines. This is where empathy and expertise meet. This is where someone thinks, “This therapist gets me.” When written well (engaging, emotional, and informative), service pages create a micro-connection before any consultation call ever happens.e.</image:caption>

Here are some suggestions: Anxiety Therapy Trauma Therapy EMDR Couples Therapy Depression Therapy Teen Therapy Postpartum Therapy LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy Group practices may need 8–12. <image:title>Mental Health Copywriter Blog | Suzanne Griffin Copywriter - From Comfortably Vague to Completely You: Making Your Therapy Website Stand Out - The Real Reason So Many Therapy Websites Sound the Same</image:title>
<image:caption>It’s not that therapists like you don’t have personality or passion. Most just weren’t taught how to translate it into writing. Graduate programs prepare you to write case notes and treatment plans, not web copy that connects with anxious strangers scrolling at midnight. So when it’s time to build a website, you do what feels safe: you look at what other therapists have written and follow suit. Before long, everyone’s saying the same thing. The irony is that therapists spend their days helping clients embrace authenticity, yet their websites often hide it. Another reason so many therapist websites sound identical? Fear. Fear of sounding too casual, too emotional, too “marketing-y.” Fear of breaking some invisible professional rule. So the voice gets flattened. The warmth disappears. And what’s left is content that’s technically correct but emotionally empty. You might worry you'll: • sound unprofessional • overshare • or turn therapy into a “sales pitch." The fix isn’t about being louder or flashier. It’s about clarity. You don’t need to reinvent your voice; you just need to uncover it. You know, the one that already exists in session when you say, “Take a deep breath. You’re not alone.” That’s the voice your website needs. (And yes, this is part of what thoughtful therapist marketing is really about.)</image:caption>

<image:title>Mental Health Copywriter Blog | Suzanne Griffin Copywriter - From Comfortably Vague to Completely You: Making Your Therapy Website Stand Out - Final Thoughts: From Comfortably Vague to Completely You</image:title>
<image:caption>You don’t need to sound like every other therapist online. You also don’t need to chase trends or copy what works for someone else. The most effective therapist websites share one thing: they sound like the person behind them. When you move away from being comfortably vague and start writing from your real voice, your website stops blending in. It becomes clear, grounded, and unmistakably you. Because at the end of the day, you’re not just writing to attract clients. You’re writing to help people find the support they’ve been searching for. And that starts with showing up as your compassionate and wonderful self.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Google’s AI models don’t read like humans. They scan, categorize, and cross-reference information from across the web. Here’s what helps your content rise to the top: Clear structure. Use descriptive headers (H2s and H3s) that mirror real-world questions clients type, like “What are the signs of anxiety?” or “How does EMDR therapy work?” Concise answers. Write short, factual responses under those headers, around 40–60 words. That’s the sweet spot for AI snippets. Accurate schema markup. Schema is behind-the-scenes code that tells Google what each part of your page means. (Don’t be afraid, I’ll explain this.) Strong author signals. Include your name, credentials, and bio on every blog post. It helps Google confirm your authority. (Surprise! I wrote another blog about this: Why Every Therapy Blog Needs an Author Bio (and How to Write One). Readable, human tone. AI models prefer natural text, client-friendly, and free of jargon—exactly what your future clients prefer, too.</image:caption>

If your site already follows E-E-A-T principles, meaning you’re showing your real credentials, using client-friendly language, and publishing useful blogs, you’re 80% there. The other 20% comes down to technical SEO: Adding schema Structuring your content for quick answers Keeping your site updated and secure (HTTPS) Linking between related pages so Google can understand your expertise With those pieces in place, your content is far more likely to appear in AI summaries, rich snippets, and other trust-based search features.</image:caption>

<image:title>Mental Health Copywriter Blog | Suzanne Griffin Copywriter - “Why Isn’t My Therapy Website Showing Up on Google?” - 2. You’re Missing Google’s Trust Signals (E-E-A-T)</image:title>
<image:caption>Google rewards websites that feel credible and professional. It looks for E-E-A-T: Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness. And yes – it sounds a little like something out of a tech manual, but don’t let that intimidate you. It’s really just Google’s way of asking, “Can we trust this person to give good advice?” These same signals now influence how AI search tools decide which content to summarize, cite, or feature in their overviews. If your site doesn’t clearly show who you are, what you do, and why you’re qualified, it’s easy for both Google and AI to overlook you. Fix it: Add an author bio to every blog post with your name, credentials, and location. Include your license, degrees, and relevant training. Link to reputable organizations (like the APA or EMDRIA). Make sure your site is secure (HTTPS) and easy to contact. These cues tell both Google and AI models, “This is a trusted, experienced professional. You should learn more about them!”</image:caption>

<image:title>Mental Health Copywriter Blog | Suzanne Griffin Copywriter - “Why Isn’t My Therapy Website Showing Up on Google?” - 6. You Haven’t Built Any Backlinks</image:title>
<image:caption>Backlinks are links from other reputable websites that point to yours. They’re one of Google’s strongest ranking signals because they act like digital votes of confidence. They’re proof that other professionals and organizations trust your content enough to share it. In other words, backlinks help Google (and AI) understand that you’re not just another therapist website, you’re a trusted part of a larger professional community. The more credible sites that mention or link to you, the more authority your own site earns in the eyes of search engines. Fix it: Get listed on credible therapy directories like Psychology Today, TherapyDen, and GoodTherapy. These listings not only send valuable backlinks but also boost your visibility when potential clients search those platforms directly. Write guest blogs or articles for reputable wellness sites, professional associations, or local publications. You’ll reach new audiences and earn quality backlinks. Collaborate with colleagues or referral partners who can link to your website from theirs, especially if you offer complementary specialties. Be a podcast guest, quoted expert, or contributor in mental health or wellness features. Those media links carry extra authority (and often appear prominently in AI-generated overviews).</image:caption>

<image:title>Mental Health Copywriter Blog | Suzanne Griffin Copywriter - How to Write a Therapy About Page That Feels Human (Not Like a Résumé)</image:title>
<image:caption>So, what actually works? Here’s the formula I use to help therapists write About pages that feel both professional and human. 1. Start with your “why” Open with what inspired you to do this work. Maybe it’s a value you hold, a pattern you’ve noticed in your community, or a moment when you realized you wanted to support people in their hardest seasons. Example: “This work is rooted in the belief that no one should face their struggles by themselves.” 2. Blend credentials with compassion Your training is important. Ensure you frame it in a way that shows clients how it benefits them. Instead of: “I am a licensed clinical social worker with 20 years of experience in CBT and DBT.” Try: “For over 20 years, I’ve helped people quiet self-criticism, navigate life’s transitions, and build steadier confidence using approaches like CBT and DBT.” 3. Show a glimpse of you Clients want to know there’s a real person behind the professional. A line or two about your love of hiking, your rescue dog, or your morning coffee ritual goes a long way toward building connection. 4. Speak to the clients' hopes Your About page isn’t just about who you are. It’s also about what clients want most. Include a line or two that connects your work to the transformation they’re looking for. Example: "For adults navigating burnout or constant worry, therapy can promote small but meaningful shifts toward feeling grounded, balanced, and more connected to life." 5. End with an invitation Every page of your website should include a call-to-action, and your About page is no different. This doesn’t have to be pushy. It’s simply about clarity. Examples: “Schedule your free consultation today.” “Reach out today. I’d be honored to support your healing journey.”.</image:caption>

<image:title>Mental Health Copywriter Blog | Suzanne Griffin Copywriter - How to Write a Therapy About Page That Feels Human (Not Like a Résumé) - Your About Page, Your Invitation</image:title>
<image:caption>Writing your About page doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. Think of it less like a résumé and more like an invitation. Share enough of yourself that people get a feel for who you are, but keep the focus on how you can support them. When you find that balance, your About page transforms. It’s no longer just another section. Instead, it becomes a key reason why someone picks you as their therapist. And here’s the part I love: the About page is actually my favorite page to write. I’ll use my questionnaire and strategy call to find the key parts of your story. Then, I’ll help you express them in a warm, authentic way that matches your voice. Because your future clients don’t want the “perfect therapist.” They want the real you. And your About page is the very first step in showing them exactly that. And if you’d like support writing yours, I’d love to help you create an About page that feels authentic, client-friendly, and completely you.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Why Work With a Copywriter for Therapists Here’s the deal: you didn’t become a therapist to spend your evenings wrestling with your homepage headline. (And honestly? You don’t have to.) Hiring a copywriter for therapists means: ✨ You get a homepage that’s SEO-savvy and client-friendly. ✨ You save yourself hours of “does this sound right?” spirals. ✨ You present yourself online in a way that feels authentic to you. It’s not about making you salesy. It’s about making your website an authentic extension of your work. Wrap-Up: Make Your Homepage a Welcome Mat, Not a Barrier A homepage doesn’t need to be fancy. It just needs to: ✅ Say what you do in plain, compassionate language. ✅ Help the right clients feel seen. ✅ Show a little bit of who you are. ✅ Invite people to take the next step. Do that, and your homepage transforms from “meh” to magnetic. And if you’d rather not DIY it? That’s literally what I do. I help therapists create websites that feel authentic, compassionate, and easy for clients (and Google) to love.</image:caption>

<image:title>Mental Health Copywriter Blog | Suzanne Griffin Copywriter - Why Every Therapy Blog Needs an Author Bio (and How to Write One) - These are the signals Google looks for when deciding whether your content is safe, accurate, and worth ranking. Why does this matter so much for therapists? Because mental health is considered a “Your Money, Your Life” (YMYL) topic. Google uses the term YMYL for content that can directly affect a person’s health, safety, finances, or overall well-being. In other words, if someone reads bad advice on these topics, it could seriously harm them. That’s why Google holds therapy-related content to a much higher standard than, say, food blogs or travel guides. That’s where your author bio comes in. By including your credentials, experience, and a link back to your website, you’re showing both Google and potential clients that: You’re a qualified professional who understands the topic. You’ve worked with real people who face the struggles you’re writing about. You’re a trustworthy source, not just another generic blog post written by a random content mill. Without a bio, Google might treat your blog like any other piece of content online. With one, you’re signaling: This post was written by a real therapist who knows what they’re talking about.</image:title>

<image:caption>At the end of each blog post: The most common and expected place. Sidebar or header: Helpful if you want your presence visible throughout the blog. Author page: If you publish often, you can create a dedicated “About the Author” page that all bios link back to. The key is consistency. Don’t hide your bio. It’s not bragging, it’s building trust. Common Author Bio Mistakes Therapists Make Leaving it out entirely. (The #1 mistake!) Being too vague. “Jane is a therapist who likes helping people” won’t cut it. Forgetting credentials. You don’t need alphabet soup, but at least include your license. No link to your site. Don’t miss the chance to guide readers to your Services or Contact page.</image:caption>

<image:title>Mental Health Copywriter Blog | Suzanne Griffin Copywriter - How to Write a Psychology Today Profile That Actually Gets Clients - The secret? Don’t write like you’re trying to impress colleagues. Write like you’re talking to a client who’s sitting in your office for the very first time. 1. Speak to the client, not just about yourself Instead of: “I work with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, and trauma.” Try: “If you’ve been feeling anxious, down, or stuck in old patterns, you don’t have to go through it alone.” 2. Use plain, compassionate language Skip the jargon. Instead of “I use evidence-based interventions,” try: “We’ll work together on practical tools you can use when life feels overwhelming. ” 3. Share your specialties in a relatable way Rather than “I specialize in trauma and anxiety,” show what that looks like in real life: “Maybe you lie awake replaying conversations in your head, or you avoid situations that feel unsafe. Together, we’ll work on building relief and confidence.”</image:title>

And if your site feels outdated (so many therapy websites are still stuck in the Friends and Seinfeld era ), too clinical, or just plain confusing, they might click away before you ever get the chance to connect. The good news? Most therapy website mistakes are surprisingly easy to fix. If your site is straight out of the 90s or early 2000s, you probably need a full redesign (web design has evolved a lot since then). But if it just needs some love? Here are the five biggest mistakes I see, and how you can turn them into opportunities to connect.</image:title>

<image:title>Mental Health Copywriter Blog | Suzanne Griffin Copywriter - Is Your Therapy Website Pushing Clients Away? 5 Common Mistakes to Fix - 5. No Clear Call to Action</image:title>
<image:caption>This might be the #1 mistake I see. Your homepage may be strong, but without a clear next step, visitors are left hanging. Fix: Every page needs a warm, clear call to action (CTA). Examples: “Schedule Your Free Consultation” “Contact Me to Get Started” “Reach Out Today. Healing Begins Here” It’s not pushy, it’s clarity. Without it, you risk losing clients who actually want to work with you but aren’t sure how to take the next step.</image:caption>

Think about it from your client’s perspective. Would you rather read advice about trauma healing from: A random person with a Pinterest board of inspirational quotes, or A licensed trauma therapist with years of practice? Google knows the difference. And it rewards the content that demonstrates credibility, compassion, and clarity.</image:title>

<image:title>Mental Health Copywriter Blog | Suzanne Griffin Copywriter - Google’s E-E-A-T, Entities, and AI SEO: What Every Therapist Needs to Know - One of the most common EEAT mistakes I see on therapist websites, besides not having a blog at all (oh, dear), is the omission of author bios. Even if the content itself is excellent, Google and AI want to know: who wrote this, and why should we trust them? That doesn’t mean you need to carve out hours to write your own blogs. It simply means every blog should be clearly tied to a qualified professional — you. Here’s how I make that easy: I write the content for you in your voice, ensuring it's client-friendly and SEO-ready. You’re credited as the author, along with your name, credentials, and a brief bio that highlights your expertise. Optional: dual attribution, sometimes we’ll note, “Written by Suzanne Griffin, Mental Health Copywriter. Reviewed by [Therapist Name], Licensed Therapist.” This blends my writing support with your professional authority. That way, your website builds trust with both clients and Google without adding to your already full workload.</image:title>

<image:title>Mental Health Copywriter Blog | Suzanne Griffin Copywriter - Why I Write About Mental Health</image:title>
<image:caption>For most of my life, anxiety and depression have been familiar companions. Not constant, not always visible, but present. Lingering in the background during seasons of high stress and surging to the surface during transitions, heartbreaks, or losses. Some days it’s a quiet hum, other days a full-body storm. I’ve also lost friends and family members to suicide. I know the shock of the phone call. The hollow, disorienting grief that follows. The questions that never get answers. If you’ve been there, you know. If you haven’t, I sincerely hope you never do. This personal history doesn’t make me an expert in therapy or psychology, and I don’t pretend to be. But it does shape the way I approach my work. I understand the stakes. I know how difficult it can be for someone to admit they need help. And I understand the power of the right words at the right time. That’s why I do what I do.</image:caption>

<image:caption>You’re doing meaningful, life-changing work. And you deserve words that reflect that. You don’t need to sound like every other therapist online. You don’t need to cram in every credential or modality. You don’t need to appeal to everyone, just the people you’re here to serve. You also don’t have to do it alone. Whether you’re building a new website from scratch or trying to update something that no longer suits your goals, I can help you find the words that feel like home. I bring empathy, strategy, and lived experience to every project I take on. And I’d be honored to support the work you do, because I know how much it matters.</image:caption>

<image:title>Mental Health Copywriter Blog | Suzanne Griffin Copywriter - Therapist Marketing: Because Your Dream Clients Can’t Read Minds</image:title>
<image:caption>Let’s talk about therapist marketing - and not the cringey kind that makes you feel like you need to shower afterward. I’m talking about the kind that feels like a natural extension of your work. The kind that gently says, Hey, I see you. You're not alone. The kind that helps the people who need you most actually find you. If you’re a therapist, you didn’t sign up to become a marketer. You didn’t get your degree so you could write Instagram captions or fiddle with your website SEO. You did it so you could hold space for people who are hurting. You did it to help people untangle what feels unbearable and find their way back to hope. But here’s the thing, and I say this with deep respect for your clinical brilliance: none of that matters if no one knows you exist. I know. It stings a little. But in today’s world. It’s a reality. Many of my clients admit to obtaining most of their clients through referrals. Often, they tell me this is great, but they want to remain relevant in the online space, but their website is either circa 2010, a crummy, frenzied hack job, or nonexistent.</image:caption>

<image:title>Mental Health Copywriter Blog | Suzanne Griffin Copywriter - Therapist Marketing: Because Your Dream Clients Can’t Read Minds</image:title>
<image:caption>This mismatch typically occurs when your marketing is either too vague, outdated, or generic. Maybe your copy is trying to speak to everyone because you don’t want to exclude anyone. (Spoiler: that ends up speaking to no one.) I can’t tell you HOW MANY TIMES THIS HAPPENS. Generic, watered-down copy = . Or maybe your online presence hasn’t caught up with the kind of work you’re doing now. That’s why one of the first steps in effective therapist marketing is getting crystal clear about who your ideal client is. And not just in demographic terms, but in lived experience, struggles, goals, and readiness for therapy. Once you know that, your website, directory listings, and content can all start speaking directly to them. And when that happens? The people who land on your site start saying things like: “I felt like you were talking directly to me.” “I’ve read so many therapist bios, but yours stood out.” “I finally felt understood.” That’s not magic. That’s strategy and empathy working together.</image:caption>

<image:title>Mental Health Copywriter Blog | Suzanne Griffin Copywriter - Yes, You Do Need a Blog (And Apparently, So Do I): Why Blogs Still Matter</image:title>
<image:caption>Let’s face it, mental health is personal. When people scroll through therapist directories or Google “how to stop crying at work every day,” they’re not just looking for someone with degrees and certifications. They’re looking for someone who gets it. Someone they can trust. A well-written blog shows people who you are, how you think, and what it might feel like to sit across from you in session. It brings your voice to life, before they ever click “Book Now.” Want to show that you understand trauma, grief, high-functioning anxiety, or postpartum rage that feels like being possessed by a very tired demon? A blog can do that. Want to educate clients about EMDR, IFS, or what actually happens in therapy? A blog can do that too. Want to normalize crying during Target runs? You already know the answer, you smart cookie, you.</image:caption>

<image:caption>If you take away one thing from this post (besides the irony of me touting the importance of blogs in blog #2 of my 5-year-old business), let it be this: Your blog is a bridge. It connects you to the people who need you most. It lets them get to know you before they ever reach out. It builds trust. It boosts your visibility. And it gives you a way to share what matters, without having to dance on Instagram or learn what BeReal is. So yes, blogs still matter. Especially for therapists. Especially for you. And if you’re ready to stop putting it off, I’d be thrilled to help you finally get those words on the page. Shoes for the cobbler. Split ends trimmed. Blogs for therapists, and even for the copywriter who writes them. Want help starting your blog (or reviving one that’s been asleep since the Obama administration)? Let’s chat! <image:caption>Let me tell you something about being your own boss: it’s not just about setting your own hours (though that is a perk). It’s about designing a life that actually fits you. As a business owner and mental health copywriter, I can take a walk in the middle of the day and call it “creative processing.” I can say no to projects that don’t light me up. (Try doing THAT when you work for someone else.) I can pivot my niche, change my offers, or take a mental health day without asking permission from a corporate overlord named Brad. I’m not chained to a cubicle. I’m not pretending to look busy at 4:59 p.m. I’m not hiding snacks in my desk drawer like I’m in a secret spy mission. Okay, I still hide snacks. But now it’s because I don’t want to share them with my teenage sons. And remember that one time I crawled under my desk to cry when I was a car insurance agent? Yeah. Good times.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Here’s what really gets me in the feels: every therapist I write for helps dozens, maybe even hundreds, of people. And the more clients they reach, the more people get supported. So, when I write a homepage that helps a postpartum mom finally reach out? That’s impact. When I write a blog that reassures a burnt-out executive that they’re not alone? That’s impact. When I help a therapist show up confidently online so they can fill their practice with aligned clients? You guessed it: impact.</image:caption>
